UA
TRADES SCHOOL EVEN BETTER FOR NEW YEAR
The Washington area UA Trades School,
already recognized as one of the best
in the country, is moving up in at least
two significant areas.
A
new high tech Distance Learning Program
will link the school to other UA training
centers throughout the country using both
telephone and internet technology. The
new program will allow students at the
Landover, Maryland facility to benefit
from instruction by top mechanical trades
faculty wherever they may be located,
and to interact with their fellow students
at other institutions.
In
addition, the United Associations, in
cooperation with Plumbers Local 5 and
Steamfitters Local 602, is teaming up
with Washtenaw Community College and Eastern
Michigan University to promote a degree
program with member/students. The school
already has an agreement with Montgomery
Community College in Rockville, Maryland,
under which members who have completed
their apprentice training can receive
credits toward a degree in Construction
Management. The establishment of degree
programs was one of the important recommendations
of the 2000 Cause Action Plan.
